Adams Wells Special Services Cooperative is a cooperative formed by the six school districts in Adams and Wells counties to provide services to students with disabilities. The cooperative, in response to the Individuals with Disabilities act (IDEA) and Indiana's Article 7 offers comprehensive program for students aged three through twenty-two. Most of the programs are provided to the students in their neighborhood school.

The Adams Wells Special Services Cooperative's Central Office is located in Berne, Indiana. Wells and Adams counties are located adjacent to each other in Northeast Indiana. We are 30 minutes south of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Current news about our communities can be found in the Bluffton News Banner, the Decatur Daily Democrat, and the Berne Witness.

It is the philosophy of AWSSC to provide each student with their needed services in the least restrictive environment while offering a full continuum of services as required by law. Program options as determined by the case conference committee, could include consultation, collaboration (team teaching), traditional pullout or alternative settings.

The Governing Board

The Governing Board of AWSSC consists of the six superintendents of the six member school corporations served by the cooperative. The Governing Board serves in an advisory capacity. They meet in open session on the first Tuesday of each month at the offices of AWSSC. Any interested parties are welcome to attend. For information on agenda items, contact the Director of Special Education.
